Culvert trail · Diesel

The Culvert is the shoe for the end of the pavement. A waterproof, breathable membrane is bonded to the mesh upper rather than dropped in as a bootie, so it does not bunch, and the seams are taped. A moulded rubber rand runs the whole way round the shoe at the midsole line, which is what stops a trail shoe dying at the toe. The outsole carries 5 mm directional lugs in a sticky compound with a heel brake for descents. The drop is 8 mm over a rock plate whose absence you would feel on flint. Diesel is a dark green-grey, Oxblood is a dark red-brown. A membrane shoe dries slowly: take the insole out and stand it up, and never dry it on a radiator, which delaminates the membrane.
